Lee Takes Two in Saturday DH over Lady Bucs

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – Dominating at the plate, the Lee University Lady Flames (13-18, 3-10 GSC) swept the Lady Bucs of Christian Brothers University (6-23, 1-15 GSC) in a Saturday doubleheader, 6-0 and 10-1, on Saturday at Butler Field.  

GAME ONE, 6-0 Lee
  • GAME CHANGER:
    • The Lady Flames tacked on three runs in the first and two runs in the sixth to secure the victory.
  • INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
    • Lady Flames left fielder Abby McKinney went 2-for-3 at the plate, with two home runs, three runs, and four RBI.
    • Lady Buc second baseman Maddi Welch went 1-for-2 with a triple, her third on the season.
    • Designated player Ashlyn Hinton and right fielder Marquisha Sanders each went 1-for-3 in the game; the Lady Bucs also drew six walks a team, led by Ashley Dyer (two).
  • KEY PLAYS:
    • The Lady Flames drew three walks in the opening frame to apply early pressure. A fielder's choice and a double from the next two batters scored plated three runs.
    • CBU looked to respond in the top of the third, putting runners on first and second with no outs, but were unable to push runs across the plate.
    • McKinney belted a solo homerun to right field in the bottom of the fourth, and hit another to straight away center to give Lee the victory.
GAME TWO, 10-1 Lee
  • GAME CHANGER:
    • Lee scored at least three runs in each of the second, third and fourth inning.
  • INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
    • Second baseman Maddi Welch (1-for-3) and designated player Ashlyn Hinton (1-for-1) were responsible for the Lady Bucs only hits in 16 plate appearances.
    • Sierra Anderson drew a walk in her only plate appearance, and also scored the Lady Bucs run in the top of the fourth. She was driven in by Abby Ferreira who reached base via error.
  • KEY PLAYS:
    • Three extra base hits in the second inning powered Lee to the early 3-0 lead, including another Abby McKinney home run.
    • The Lady Flames did all its damage in the third inning with one swing, as Claudia Jones hit a three-run home run down the left field line.
    • McKinney and Jones each recorded singles in the fourth, as a part of a four hit inning that scored four runs to give Lee the win.
 
  • NEXT TIME OUT:
    • The Lady Bucs look to avoid series sweep in Cleveland tomorrow as they aim to take game three against Lee. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
