Lady Bucs Rally Flames Out Against Lee

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Christian Brothers Lady Bucs softball team's comeback feel just short as they lost against the Lee Lady Flames (14-18, 4-10 GSC), 8-7 on Sunday at Butler field.
  • GAME CHANGER:
    • After Abby Ferreira homered down the left field line in the top of the seventh, the Lady Bucs (6-24, 1-16 GSC) trimmed the deficit to just one run, but could not close the gap.
  • INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
    • Teams combined for four home runs in the game, with each side hitting two bombs. Maddi Welch went deep in the fourth to score two runs, and Ferreira's came in the seventh.
    • After combining for just five hits in the Saturday doubleheader, the Lady Bucs exploded for eight hits (in addition to four walks drawn). Ashlyn Hinton (2-for-2, one RBI and one run) and Abby Ferreira (2-for-3, two runs, one RBI and one walk) led the way.
    • Kendall Westbrooks also had a strong day at the play, going 1-for-2 with a run scored and two walks.
  • KEY PLAYS:
    • The Lady Flames took command in the bottom of the first, after a three-run home run gave them the early lead.
    • However, the Lady Bucs scored two runs in the second and three runs in the fourth, including a Julia Schassburger double, to take a 5-4 lead.
    • The Lady Flames regained control in the bottom of the fifth, scoring three runs off a single and an error. An insurance run came in the sixth inning for Lee, which proved to be vital as the Lady Bucs made a charge in the seventh. However, it was not enough.

  • NEXT TIME OUT:
    • The Lady Bucs have a busy week as they travel to Nashville to face Trevecca Nazarene on Tuesday and host West Alabama at Bland Field for a doubleheader on Thursday.
