Bucs Drop Nail Biter Against Harding

MILLINGTON, Tenneesse- The Harding University Bisons scored the winning run, in the top of the final frame, to defeat the Christian Brothers University Bucs 2-1 Tuesday evening. 


FINAL: Harding (20-11) 2, CBU (8-22) 1

GAME CHANGER
  • The Bisons' left fielder, Nolan Fertig, singled home a run in the top of the ninth inning, which ended up being the game winning base knock. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Harding outhit CBU 11-6.
  • Jaime Soto led the Bucs' offense with two hits.
  • Jonathan Baldelli threw 8.1 innings for the Bucs, while allowing only two earned runs and striking out two Bisons' batters.
  • CBU's lone run of the ballgame came from a Harding error.
  • J.D. Goodspeed and Jeff Goodwin has reached base safely in four consecutive games.

KEY PLAYS
  • The Bisons jumped out to an early lead as they strung together a few hits, in the top of the first, and brought home a run.
  • The Bucs knotted things up at one, in the bottom of the third frame, when Jared Cramer scored from a throwing error.
  • With runners on the corner, in the top of the sixth, Soto made an incredible diving play to his right and then got up and threw the ball to double the guy off at third base to end the inning.
  • In the following inning, Baldelli got himself out of another big jam. With the go ahead run on third base, with no outs, Baldelli was able to leave the runner stranded at third to keep things tied at one.
  • The Bisons' left fielder, Nolan Fertig, played hero for the game as he singled home the game winning run in the top of the final frame (2-1).

WHAT'S NEXT
  • The Bucs are off for the rest of the week, but will return to action Saturday, April 6. They will take on Mississippi College in a GSC weekend series at Nadicksbernd Field. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
