Lady Bucs Drop Heartbreaker at Valdosta State

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Christian Brothers Lady Bucs softball team's dropped a heartbreaker in extra innings against the Valdosta State Blazers on Sunday.
  • GAME CHANGER:
    • After both teams went scoreless through seven innings, the No. 19 Blazers (30-10, 13-10 GSC) hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth to secure the victory.
 
  • INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
    • First baseman Sierra Anderson recorded the Lady Bucs (9-33, 1-22 GSC) only hit.
    • Starting pitcher Macy Cumming threw 7.1 innings, allowing only two runs on nine hits and striking out two batters.
    • The Blazers struck out the Lady Bucs 14 times without allowing a walk.
 
  • KEY PLAYS:
    • VSU were threatening in the bottom of the first after three straight singles, but the Lady Bucs turned an inning-ending double play to get out of the inning unscathed.
    • A pair of base runners in the second again presented a threat for the Blazers, but Cumming struck out the final batter of the frame to hold the shutout.
    • The Lady Bucs went without a hit in the first seven innings, but Anderson broke through in the eighth, leading off with a single, but a pinch runner was thrown out stealing second.
    • The Blazers started the eighth with a double to left field and finished the game with a home run to straight away center to secure the victory.
 
  • NEXT TIME OUT:
    • The Lady Bucs look to get back in the win column with a midweek twinbill against Blue Mountain College on Wednesday. Then CBU returns home for its final series at Bland Field for Senior Day against Auburn-Montgomery.
