Lady Bucs Bounce Back to Earn Split at Blue Mountain

BLUE MOUNTAIN, MISS. – The Christian Brothers University softball team used a complete game effort by starting pitcher Macy Cumming, and clutch hitting, to earn a split with Blue Mountain College, on Wednesday at the BMC Softball Complex. The Toppers earned a 10-3 victory in the opener, but CBU bounced back to earn the victory in game two. 
 
GAME ONE: Blue Mountain 10 (18-23), CBU 3 (9-34)
 
GAME CHANGER:
- In the fourth BMC scored eight runs, taking advantage of four walks, a hit by pitch and a wild pitch. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Blue Mountain finished the game with a 12-3 edge in hits.
- Marquisha Sanders led CBU at the plate finishing 1-for-2 with a triple, two RBIs and two walks.
- Sierra Anderson and Savannah Rosevear-Goetsch also had hits for the Lady Bucs. 
- Mackenzie Puckett, who came into the game in relief, took the loss. Puckett allowed three runs in 0.1 innings. Three CBU pitchers combined for six walks. 

KEY PLAYS:
- The Lady Toppers left a combined four runners on base in the first three innings.
- CBU took advantage, plating its first run of the game in the fourth. Sanders walked, and stole second. She then took third base on a throwing error. She scored the first run of the game on a  
  sac fly by Maddi Welch
- In the fifth, CBU added to its lead on Sanders' 2 RBI triple.  
- Blue Mountain exploded for eight runs, in the fifth, taking advantage of four bases loaded walks, a hit by pitch and a wild pitch.   
- In the sixth, the Toppers took advantage of a CBU error to add a pair of runs to complete the scoring.     
 

NOTEWORTHY:
- The triple for Sanders was her third of the season. 
- The single for Rosevear-Goetsch was her first of the year. 
 
GAME TWO: CBU 4 (10-34), BMC 1 (18-24)
 
GAME CHANGER:
- Marquisha Sanders smacked a two-run triple, in the seventh inning, that proved to be the game-winner.   

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Lady Bucs outhit BMC 6-4.
- Sanders finished 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and a stolen base. 
- Savannah Rosevear-Goetch finished 1-for-3 with the game-tying RBI. 
- Macy Cumming went the distance and allowed just one run, on four hits, with six strikeouts.  

KEY PLAYS:
- CBU left runners on base in the second, fourth and sixth innings.  
- BMC took a 1-0 lead, in the bottom of the sixth, when it scored on a wild pitch.   
- The Lady Bucs started the rally, in the seventh, when Shelby Crocker reached on a one out walk. After a double by Abby Ferreira sent pinch-runner Ashley Dyer to third, she scored on the  
  infield single by Rosevear-Goetch. 
- After a failed sac bunt attempt, Sanders slapped a triple over the head of the center fielder. She then came around to score after a throwing error. 
- The Toppers got a one out single, in the seventh, but the game ended on a double play.   
 
NOTEWORTHY:
- The victory for the Lady Bucs was the second of the season when they trailed after five innings. 
- Sanders recorded her fourth triple of the season, and her second of the day. She now has five multi-hit games this season. 
- The RBI Rosevear-Goetsch was her second of the year. 
- Cumming has allowed just three earned runs over her last 15 innings. 
 
 

UP NEXT:
- The Lady Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Friday, April 19 when they begin a three-game series with Auburn Montgomery. The threat of weather has moved first pitch from 1 p.m. to
  4 p.m. Saturday's doubleheader, will now be played at 10 a.m. On Saturday, CBU will honor its three seniors.
