Union Sinks Bucs in Season Finale

JACKSON, Tennessee- Union University rallied behind some impressive pitching performances to complete the sweep of the Christian Brothers University Bucs Sunday afternoon.

GAME CHANGER
  • The Bulldogs' starter, Brandon Maxwell, tossed 4.1 innings, while holding the Bucs to one earned run and striking out six batters.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • A total of 18 runners were left on base in the ball game.
  • CBU outhit Union 10-8.
  • Hunter Howard pushed his hit streak to six consecutive games.
  • CBU senior, Jeff Goodwin, led the way for the Bucs' offense as he tallied three hits and four RBIs. Jared Cramer and Keagan Voss tallied two base knocks a piece.
  • Union's baserunners recorded four stolen bases on the day.
  • Garrett Dooley came out of the Bucs' pen and tossed 2.1 scoreless innings while striking out three hitters.

  • The Bucs jumped out to an early lead as they plated two runs in the second frame, which came from a Jeff Goodwin two RBI single (2-0).
  • Union got a run back in the bottom of the same frame to bring the score to 2-1.
  • The Bulldogs jumped out to a lead, in the third inning, when they brought home four runs (5-2).
  • UU extended on that 5-2 lead in the next frame when they recorded two runs, which came from four base knocks (7-2).
  • CBU began to chip away at the lead as they brought home a total of three runs, in the fifth and sixth innings, to bring the score to 7-5.
  • Goodwin knocked in his final RBI of the game, in the eight inning, to bring the Bucs one run from the lead (7-6).
  • Union rounded out the scoring in the game, in the bottom of the same frame, which was enough to fend off the Bucs for the 8-6 victory.
