JACKSON, Tenn. – The Christian Brothers University softball team got a two-RBI double from
Maddi Welch and
Macy Cumming pitched a complete game to help the Lady Bucs split a doubleheader at in-state rival Union, on Saturday at Fesmire Field. Union held on to take the opener, 5-4.
GAME ONE: UNION 5 (28-22, 13-15 GSC), CBU 4 (10-37 1-25 GSC)
GAME CHANGER:
- In the second, with the game tied at two, Kaitlyn Kelley smacked a three-run home run.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Union finished the game with an 8-4 advantage in hits.
- Marquisha and
Maddi Welch led CBU with two hits apiece. Welch also had a two-RBI double.

Mackenzie Puckett and
Sierra Anderson also drove in runs.
- Anderson allowed five runs, on eight hits, in six innings.
KEY PLAYS:
- The Lady Bucs opened the scoring, in the top of the first, on RBI groundouts by Puckett and Anderson.
- Union responded, in the bottom half of the inning, using an RBI single and a double steal.
- After Kelley gave the Lady Bulldogs a 5-2 lead, they kept the score the same until the seventh inning.
- Welch deliverd a two-RBI double, with two outs, to get the Lady Bucs to within 5-4. The Union pitcher, Parker Davis, got a strikeout to end the game.
GAME TWO: CBU 2 (11-37, 2-25 GSC), UNION 1 (28-23 13-16 GSC)
GAME CHANGER:
- Cumming allowed just one run, on a wild pitch, in a complete game effort.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Union outhit the Lady Bucs 7-4.
- Welch led CBU, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Sanders, and Puckett had the other two hits.
- Cumming forced Union into 12 groundouts.
KEY PLAYS:
- Welch gave CBU a 2-0 lead, in the third, on her second two-RBI double of the day.
- Cumming kept Union of the scoreboard until the sixth inning, when it scored off a wild pitch.
- The Lady Bulldogs left runners on base in all but one inning (7th).
NOTABLES:
- This was the first win for the Lady Bucs, in Jackson, in recorded program history.
