MEMPHIS – Mississippi College used a pinch-hit double by Baylee Freudenberg, with two outs in, in the top of the seventh, to defeat the Christian Brothers University softball team 4-3, on Friday at Bland Field.
FINAL SCORE: Mississippi College 4 (29-10, 11-7 GSC), CBU 3 (9-28, 1-17 GSC)

- Freudenberg's double came with two outs in the top of the seventh.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Lady Choctaws finished the game with an 11-9 edge in hits.

Mackenzie Puckett led CBU at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Maddi Welch (2-for-3) was the only other CBU player with multiple hits
- Four other players recorded hits, including
Kendall Westbrooks, who hit her sixth home run of the season.
- The teams combined to leave 19 runners on base, including 12 for MC. The Lady Choctaws also committed three errors.
- MC pitchers struck out 11 CBU batters, with nine coming from Hannah Creel.
- Puckett, who also started in the circle, allowed four runs, on 11 hits with six strikeouts and five walks.
KEY PLAYS:
- The Lady Choctaws jumped out to a 2-0 lead, in the top of the first, on a two-out single, off the center field fence, by Brianna Caldwell.
- Puckett got out of a jam in the second when MC put the first two runners on, and loaded the bases with two, outs but a groundout ended the threat.
- In the second,
Kendall Westbrooks put the Lady Bucs on the board when she smacked a home run to right center field.
- The Lady Bucs tied the game at two, in the third, when
Kaitlin Bowers singled and advanced to third on an error, scored on an RBI single by
Maddi Welch.
- In the fourth, the Lady Bucs loaded the bases with two outs but a ground ball ended the threat.
- MC took 3-2 lead in the sixth, but the Lady Bucs responded in the bottom half of the inning on Puckett's RBI single to left field.
- The Lady Bucs were one pitch away from getting out of another jam, but Freudenberg delivered what proved to be the game-winning double.
NOTEWORTHY:
- With her 3-for-4 day at the plate, Puckett is now 13 for her last 17 at the plate.
- Westbrooks is now tied for fourth in CBU single season history with six home runs.
