Lytle Scores 1,000th Career Point; Lady Bucs Fall to West Georgia

MEMPHIS  - West Georgia outscored the Christian Brothers University women's basketball team 45-32 in the second half, and pulled away for an 89-75 victory, on Saturday afternoon at Canale Arena.

After scoring a basket with 3:48 left in the opening quarter, junior guard Brynne Lytle became the 18th member of the CBU women's basketball 1,000 point club. The Jackson, Tenn.., native leads the Gulf South Conference with 23.8 points per game.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • A fast paced first quarter saw the teams combine for 49 points on 19-of-35 shooting. The Wolves held a narrow 25-24 at the end of the quarter. 
  • The Lady Bucs went on a 6-0 run to start the second quarter, but UWG responded to take a 44-43 lead into halftime. 
  • UWG gained control in the third quarter when it used a 7-2 run to take a 63-53 lead with 2:33 left in the period. 
  • A jump shot by Julia Nicholson, with 25 seconds left in the quarter, cut the UWG lead to 66-62. 
  • The Wolves started the fourth quarter 5-of-7 shooting, and took a 79-64 lead with 4:52 left. 
  • A three point basket by Lytle capped off a 9-0 run, cutting the lead to 79-73, but the Wolves scored 10 of the next 12 points to finish the game. 

KEY STATS | NOTEABLES:
  • CBU finished the game shooting a season high 48 percent (30-of-62) from the floor, but were just 5-for-20 from three point range.
  • The Wolves were 32-of-64 from the floor and converted 14-of-36 from three point range. 
  • CBU has surrendered 14 three pointers in back-to-back games. 
  • The Lady Bucs owned the paint, outscoring UWG 48-28. 
  • CBU outrebounded the Wolves 31-30.
  • Brynne Lytle scored a game high 30 points. She has scored at least 24 points in nine of the last 10 games. 
  • Lauren Taylor added 11 points and 7 rebounds. 
  • Darcy Doran and Kelsey Adkins scored nine points apiece. 
  • Taylor Williams had eight assists for CBU. She has dished out 17 helpers in the last two games.

The Lady Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Thursday, Jan. 30 when they travel to Shorter. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. CBU defeated Shorter 96-72, on Jan. 23.
