Big Innings Costly as Lady Bucs Drop Pair at UAH Charger Chillout

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Christian Brothers University softball team saw both of its opponents take advantage of five run innings, as it fell 7-4 to Trevecca Nazarene and 12-1 (6) to Bellarmine, at the opening Day of the UAH Charger Chillout, on Friday at the Huntsville Sportsplex.

The games were the first of the 2020 season for CBU, and the first for new Head Coach, Jordan Bastian. 
  
GAME ONE:  TREVECCA 7-4 (1-0), CBU 4 (0-1) 
 
GAME CHANGER:
- The Trojans took advantage of three errors, scoring five runs, in the third inning. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Both teams finished the game with eight hits. 
- In her first game as a Lady Buc, Bree Brady went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and four RBIs.
- Savannah Rosevear-Goetsch and Ashlyn Hinton had two base hits apiece, while Kendall Westbrooks added a double. 
- Julia Schassburger allowed seven runs, four earned, on six hits in four innings of work. 

KEY PLAYS:
- The Lady Bucs opened the scoring, in the top of the first, on Brady's two-RBI double. 
- Trevecca responded, in the bottom half of the inning, using an RBI groundout. 
- The Trojans took control of the game with five runs in the third, powered by a three-RBI triple and three CBU errors.
- After Trevecca added another run, the Lady Bucs got two back in the top of the seventh on Brady's two-RBI triple.
- Trevecca got a pair of strikeouts to end the game.  

NOTABLES:  
- This was the fourth multi hit game for Rosevear-Goetsch and the third for Hinton. 
 
GAME TWO: Bellarmine 12 (1-1), CBU 1 (0-2) (6)
 
GAME CHANGER:
- The Knights took advantage of six CBU errors

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Bellarmine outhit the Lady Bucs 11-4.
- CBU committed six errors. 
- Memory Willingham had two of the four CBU hits. 
- Macy Cumming allowed seven runs on eight hits.
 
KEY PLAYS:
- Bellarmine scored three runs in the top of the first. 
- CBU scored its lone run of the game, in the first, when Mackenzie Puckett roped an RBI double. 
- Bellarmine added four runs in the second and five in the sixth.

UP NEXT:
The Lady Bucs are scheduled to wrap up the Charger Chillout, on Saturday, Feb. 1 with a doubleheader against Kentucky Wesleyan. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
