HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Brynne Lytle hit a three pointer as time expired to lift the Christian Brothers University women's basketball team to a 63-62 victory over Alabama Huntsville, on Saturday afternoon, at Spragins Hall. The victory marked the first road win, in Gulf South Conference play, for the Lady Bucs since they defeated Shorter January 24, 2019.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- With 2:06 left in the opening quarter, a three pointer by Chasity gave the Lady Bucs a 13-6 lead.
- UAH went on a quick 5-0 spurt, but the Lady Bucs led 16-11 after the first 10 minutes.
- A layup by Sydney Wilson extended the CBU lead to 25-15 with 6:29 left in the half.
- UAH cut the deficit to 29-27, but a three pointer by Lauren Taylor gave CBU a 32-27 lead going into halftime.
- The third quarter was all UAH, as it outscored the Lady Bucs 21-14 to take a 48-46 lead.
- UAH hit a long range shot to take a 59-53 lead, with 4:27 left, but Kelsey Adkins hit her first shot of the season to cut the lead back to three.
- After Lytle hit a pair of free throws, with 1:25 remaining, Katie Speegle hit a layup that put UAH up 61-58.
- With 12 seconds remaining, Lytle was fouled on a layup attempt. Her free throws got the Lady Bucs to within two points.
- After UAH made just one of two free throws, Taylor Williams fed Lauren Taylor, in the post, who found Lytle wide open in the corner for the game-winner.
KEY STATS | NOTEABLES:
- CBU finished the game shooting 40 percent (22-of-55) from the floor, including 7-of-24 from long-range.
- CBU held UAH to just 34 percent from the field (22-of-63). The Lady Bucs also limited the Chargers to just 3-for-22 from long range, which tied for their lowest output of the season.
- The Lady Bucs were 12-of-15 from the line, including a 10-for-10 performance by Lytle.
- The Lady Bucs were outrebounded by a slim 40-36 margin
- Lytle scored a game high 24 points and grabbed seven rebounds. She has posted at least 20 points in all but one game this season.
- Lauren Taylor added 14 points and nine boards.
- Darcy Doran chipped in 11 points, which is the third double digit scoring effort of her young career.
