Big Second Half Leads Lady Bucs Past West Georgia

CARROLLTON, Ga.  - The Christian Brothers University women's basketball team outscored West Georgia 42-26, in the second half, and earned a 75-63 victory, on Saturday afternoon, at The Coliseum. 

With the victory, the Lady Bucs have matched their Gulf South Conference win total from last season (7). CBU also improved its road record to 5-4, matching the most road victories since 2014-15.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The first quarter was all Wolves, as they jumped out to an 11-2 lead and led 20-10 going into the second. 
  • CBU responded, going on an 18-9 run over the first 5:30 over the second quarter. 
  • A jumper by Lauren Taylor cut the UWG lead to 37-33 going into halftime. 
  • The third quarter belonged to the Lady Bucs, as they held UWG to just 3 field goals (3-for-19), while opening up a 56-45 lead. 
  • After trailing by as many as 11 points in the fourth quarter, the Wolves cut the lead to 66-61, wih 2:28 left. 
  • The Lady Bucs outscored the hosts 9-1 the rest of the way to hold on for the win. 

KEY STATS | NOTEABLES:
  • CBU held UWG to just 8-of-33 from the floor in the second half. By comparison, the Wolves were 9-of-17 in the first quarter alone. 
  • The Lady Bucs finished the game 25-of-63 (40 percent) from the floor, including 13-of-27 in the second half. CBU was 11-for-27 from long range and 14-of-18 from the free throw stripe. 
  • After allowing 14 three pointers from UWG in the first meeting, the Lady Bucs surrendered just seven in the second contest. 
  • Brynne Lytle scored a game-high 28 points. She has scored at least 24 points in the last 10 games. Lytle finished 5-of-10 from three point range. In the first quarter, Lytle had a streak of 28 straight made free throws snapped. That streak is tied for fourth in GSC history. Lytle is the first Gulf South Conference player to make more than 26 straight charity shots since 2010. 
  • Lauren Taylor added 15 points and 10 rebounds, for her fifth double-double of the season. 
  • Taylor Williams finished the game with eight points, nine assists and six rebounds.

The Lady Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Thursday, Feb. 6 when they host Delta State. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
