CLEVELAND, Miss. – Starting pitcher
McKenna Rose pitched a complete game shutout to help the Christian Brothers University softball team earn a doubleheader split with Delta State, on Saturday at University Field.
After CBU earned a 3-0 win in game one, Delta State came from behind to win 7-6 (8), in game two, denying the Lady Bucs a doubleheader sweep.
The shutout of DSU marked the first time the Lady Bucs have not allowed a run against a Gulf South Conference opponent since defeating West Florida 5-0 on March 1, 2015.
GAME ONE: CBU 3 (6-6, 2-2 GSC), DSU 0 (3-9, 0-4 GSC)
GAME CHANGER:

McKenna Rose did not allow a run, and surrendered just five hits.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- DSU finished with a 5-3 advantage in hits.
- All three CBU hits were for extra bases.

GAME CHANGER:
- DSU hit three home runs including a two-run shot, to tie the game, in the seventh.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Both teams finished with 10 hits.

Mackenzie Puckett led the Lady Bucs, going 3-for-3 with four RBIs. Puckett hit a pair of home runs, including a three-run round tripper in the seventh.

Ashley Dyer also hit a home run for the Lady Bucs.
- Dyer and
Elaina McGill finished with two hits apiece.
KEY PLAYS:
- DSU hit a two-run home run to take the lead in the first inning.
- The Lady Bucs responded in the second when a sac fly by McGill plated Brady.
- Puckett's solo home run tied the game at two, in the fourth, but DSU retook the lead, with a home run, in the bottom of the inning.
- Trailing 3-2 in the seventh, Puckett's three run home run gave the Lady Bucs a 5-3 lead.
- DSU kept the game alive with a home run of its own, a two-run blast, in the bottom of the seventh.
- Dyer's home run gave the Lady Bucs the lead in the eighth, but an RBI single, by DSU tied the game at six.
- DSU plated the winning run in the bottom half of the eighth, when it took advantage of an error.
NOTEABLES:
- The two home run game for Puckett was the first of her career. Her four RBI's are a career-high.
- Dyer's home run was the second of her career.
