Lady Bucs Pitch Way to Split With Lee

MEMPHIS – Starting pitcher McKenna Rose allowed just one run and struck out seven to help lead the Christian Brothers University softball team to a doubleheader split with Lee, on Saturday afternoon, at Bland Field. Rose and the Lady Bucs earned a 2-1 win in the opener. Lee came from behind to earn the split, 3-2, in the second game. 

The game one victory over Lee is the second in program history, and is the first since April 25, 2015. CBU has also eclipsed its Gulf South Conference win total from last season.

GAME ONE:  CBU 2 (9-8, 3-4 GSC), LEE 0 (10-6, 1-3 GSC)  
 
GAME CHANGER:
McKenna Rose allowed just one run, on four hits, and struck out seven. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- CBU finished with a 5-4 advantage in hits. 
- All three CBU hits were for extra bases. 
- Bree Brady led the Lady Bucs, going 2-for-3 with a single, a double and an RBI.
- CBU had four runners reach via hit by pitch, including Ashley Dyer, who was hit twice. 
- Rose did not walk a batter in the complete game effort. The lefty retired nine straight batters during the contest. 

KEY PLAYS:
- Brady's RBI single, in the first, put CBU up 1-0. 
- Lee tied the game at one, in the second, on a solo home run. 
- The Lady Bucs left a pair in scoring position in the fourth. 
- In the sixth, CBU scored what proved to be the game winning run when it took advantage of a dropped fly ball by the shortstop. 
- Lee had runners on second and third, with no outs, in the seventh but squandered the opportunity. 
- Following a strikeout, Lee attempted to steal home but had the runner thrown out at the plate. 
- Rose induced a groundout to end the game. 
 
GAME TWO: LEE 3 (11-6, 2-3 GSC), CBU 2 (9-9, 3-5) 
 
GAME CHANGER:
- After tying the game at two, in the sixth, the Flames scored in the seventh to win the game. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Lady Bucs were outhit 9-6.
- Six different CBU players recorded hits. 
- Elaina McGill and Brady drove in one run apiece. 
- Savannah Crockett scored both CBU runs. 
- Starting pitcher Mackenzie Puckett allowed two runs, on six hits, with four strikeouts in 5.2 innings. 
 
KEY PLAYS:
- Brady gave CBU a 1-0 lead, in the third, on a sac fly to left. 
- McGIll's RBI single added to the lead in the fifth. 
- Lee tied the game in the sixth on a two RBI double by Zoe Miller. 
- The Flames plated the what proved to be the winner, in the seventh, on an RBI single from Abby McKinney. 
- CBU was retired in order in the seventh. 

UP NEXT:
The Lady Bucs are scheduled to wrap up the series with Lee on Sunday, March 1. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
