West Florida Pitches Way Past Lady Bucs to Sweep Doubleheader

PENSACOLA, Fla.  – West Florida allowed just two hits in 10 innings, in a dominant performance, in a doubleheader sweep of the Christian Brothers University softball team, on Thursday afternoon, at the UWF Softball Complex.

UWF did not allow a hit, in a 9-0 win, in the opener, and allowed just two in an 8-0 victory to finish the sweep. The doubleheader between the Gulf South Conference foes did not count in the league standings. 

GAME ONE:  UWF 9 (15-7), CBU 0 (9-13) (5) 
 
GAME CHANGER:
- Three UWF pitchers combined to allow just one baserunner. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- UWF outhit the Lady Bucs 10-0.
- The Argos finished the game with three home runs. 
- Starting pitcher McKenna Rose allowed six runs, on seven hits, in 2.2 innings. 

KEY PLAYS:
- UWF hit the first of its home runs, a two-run shot, in the bottom of the first. 
- The hosts put up six runs in the third, using a three-run home run, while also taking advantage of an error to plate two more. 
- UWF finished the scoring with a solo home run in the fourth. 
 
GAME TWO: UWF 8 (16-7), CBU 0 (9-14) (5) 
 
GAME CHANGER:
- UWF put up seven runs in the second inning. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Lady Bucs were outhit 10-2.
- Memory Willingham had a double and Bree Brady added a single to lead CBU. 
- UWF finished with five doubles, a triple and a home run. 

KEY PLAYS:
- The Argos put up seven runs in the second, using a three-run home run, an RBI single, a triple and two doubles. 
- In the fourth CBU had runners on first and third with no outs, but could not manufacture a run. 
- UWF added a run in the fourth to finish the scoring. 
 
UP NEXT:
The Lady Bucs are scheduled to travel to Huntsville, Ala., on Saturday, March 7, to begin a three-game GSC series at Alabama Huntsville. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
