MEMPHIS - The Christian Brothers University women's basketball team opened the fourth quarter on a 14-5 run, and held on for a 67-58 victory, on Thursday evening, at Canale Arena.
The game marked the Gulf South Conference opener for both teams, and stopped a four-game skid for CBU.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Shorter forced six CBU turnovers, and held the Lady Bucs to 4-of-16 shooting to take a 16-11 lead after the first quarter.
- CBU answered back in the second, outscoring the Lady Hawks 20-13, to take a 31-29 lead at halftime. CBU shot 54 percent in the second quarter.
- In the third quarter, the Lady Bucs led by as many as five, but Shorter cut the lead to 46-45 going into the final quarter.
- The Lady Bucs opened the fourth quarter on a 14-5 run to take a 60-50 lead with 4:30 left.
- All-GSC performer Jasmine Gaines' layup, with 1:38 left, got the visitors to within 60-57, but the Lady Bucs hit seven-of-eight free throws to hold on for the win.
KEY STATS | NOTEABLES:
- Jeremia Montgomery finished with a career-high 20 points with seven rebounds. The freshman was 8-for-8 from the free throw line.
- Emily Jones added 19 points and seven boards.
- Yaya Coleman had nine points with a game-high nine rebounds.
- CBU held Shorter to just 31 percent from the floor (19-of-61), including 4-of-16 from beyond the three point line.
- The Lady Bucs were outscored 24-7 in the fourth quarter.
