UWA Pitching Blanks Bucs to Earn Series Sweep

Livingston, Ala. – With the help of its pitching, West Alabama completed the series sweep of the Christian Brothers University baseball team, on Saturday afternoon, at Tartt Field. The Tigers blanked the Bucs in both contests earning an 11-0 victory in game one and an 8-0 victory, in the nightcap.      

GAME ONE: West Alabama 11 (5-3, 3-3 GSC) CBU 0 (0-8, 0-8 GSC) (8)
 
GAME CHANGER:
- UWA starter Connor Brooks threw 8 shutout innings and racked up 10 strikeouts.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Tigers finished the game with a 14-4 advantage in hits.
- Keagan Voss, Antonio Fernandez, Jaime Soto, and Travis Cole each collected a hit for the Bucs.
- CBU game one starter, Blake Dallas threw 6.1 innings with 7 strikeouts.

KEY PLAYS:
- After three scoreless innings, West Alabama strung together three straight hits to take a 3-0 lead after four.
- Jacobey Hawthorne added to the Tigers lead with a one-out homer in the sixth inning to lead 4-0 after six.   
- The Tigers took advantage of two Buc miscues in the seventh to take 6-0 lead.
- In the eighth, the Tigers first six batters reached base to help finish the contest.

GAME TWO: West Alabama 8 (6-3, 4-3 GSC) CBU 0 (0-9, 0-9 GSC) 
 
GAME CHANGER:
- Tigers game two starter, Javian Stone, threw 7 shutout innings with 11 strikeouts.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Tigers finished the game with a 10-5 edge in hits. 
- J.D. Goodspeed went 2-for-4 with a double. 
- Alex Meadows went 1-for-2 with a double.
- Travis Cole and Payne Smith also collected a hit for the Bucs.  
- CBU game two starter, Travis Cole pitched 5.1 innings with 5 strikeouts.

KEY PLAYS:
- The Tigers got on the board first as they took advantage of three wild pitches to lead 2-0 after one.
- Cole then retired eight of the next nine batters he faced.
- The Tigers totaled six runs from innings five through seven to take an 8-0 lead.
- Logan McDowell and Luke Lankford, for West Alabama, pitched two innings of relief, allowing no runs on no hits.

UP NEXT:
The Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, March 6 for their home opener against Alabama Huntsville. First pitch of the double header is scheduled for 10am.
