Livingston, Ala. – The Christian Brothers University softball team hit a pair of home runs, including a grand slam, to help it earn a doubleheader split with West Alabama, on Saturday at the UWA Softball Complex.
The Lady Bucs won the opener 12-6, but dropped a 3-2 decision in the series decider.
GAME ONE: CBU 12 (1-4 GSC) | West Alabama 6 (5-6, 1-4 GSC)
GAME CHANGER:
- Trailing 6-4 going into the top of the seventh, the Lady Bucs exploded for eight runs to take a 12-6 lead.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- UWA finished the game with an 11-9 advantage in hits.
- The Tigers had four extra base hits. All of which were doubles.
- CBU finished with a pair of home runs, including a grand slam by
Memory Willingham.
- Gabby Shultz was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Kendall Westbrooks was 1-for-3 with a solo home run and two RBIs.

Macy Cumming won the game in relief of
Mackenzie Puckett. Cumming allowed two runs, on five hits, in 4.2 innings of work.
KEY PLAYS:
- CBU jumped on top 2-0, in the first, using RBI singles from Willingham and
Elaina McGill.
- Westbrooks' solo shot, in the third, extended the lead to 3-1.
- The Tigers added three in the bottom of the third to take a 4-3 lead.
- Trailing 6-4 in the seventh, the Lady Bucs plated eight runs on three hits.
- CBU took advantage of two bases loaded walks and a hit by pitch.
- The grand slam by Willingham proved to be the final scoring of the game.
GAME TWO: UWA 3 (6-6, 2-4 GSC) | CBU 2 (1-5 GSC)
GAME CHANGER:
- Trailing 3-2 in the sixth, the Lady Bucs had the first two batters of the inning reach safely but were unable to capitalize.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- UWA finished the game with an 7-6 advantage in hits.
- CBU commited two errors in the contest.
- Willingham and
Bree Brady had two hits apiece for CBU.
- Starting pitcher
McKenna Rose, went the distance allowing just three runs on seven hits.
KEY PLAYS:
- After UWA plated a pair of runs in the first inning, the Lady Bucs answered with two in the third when Willingham had an RBI double and scored on Brady's single.
- The Tigers scored what proved to be the game-winner in the fifth, when Lexy House scored from third after Kylie Martin was thrown out at second base.
- CBU couldn't score the tying run in the sixth after seeing the first two batters reach safely.
- Willingham and Brady were retired in the seventh with
Ashley Dyer on second base.

The Lady Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, March 6 when they host Alabama Huntsville. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
