MEMPHIS – The Christian Brothers University softball team saw a pair of comeback efforts fall just short, as it dropped a Gulf South Conference doubleheader to No. 14 Alabama Huntsville, on Saturday afternoon, at St. Benedict at Auburndale High School. UAH held off a late CBU rally to win the opener 6-4, and claimed a dramatic 12-9 (9) victory in the nightcap.
GAME ONE: No. 14 Alabama Huntsville 6 (10-3, 5-2 GSC) CBU 4 (1-8, 1-6 GSC)
GAME CHANGER:
- Alabama Huntsville led 5-1 halfway through the contest and held on for the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- UAH finished the game with an 12-10 advantage in hits.
- The Chargers had five extra base hits. All of which were doubles.
- Both teams left 12 runners on base.

Kendall Westbrooks had two hits apiece to lead CBU.
- Starting pitcher
McKenna Rose allowed five runs, four earned, on seven hits in four innings of work.
KEY PLAYS:
- UAH jumped on top 2-0, in the first, taking advantage of a pair of hits and an error.
- The Lady Bucs answered back in the bottom half of the inning when
Bree Brady drove in Bond.
- The Chargers scored what proved to be the game winning runs in the fourth when they scored three runs off three doubles.
- Trailing 6-1 in the seventh, the Lady Bucs put a scare into the Chargers when they plated three runs and finished the game with the bases loaded.
GAME TWO: No. 14 Alabama Huntsville 12 (11-3, 6-2 GSC) CBU 9 (1-9, 1-7 GSC) (9)
GAME CHANGER:
- UAH pounded out 20 hits in the contest, including seven for extra bases.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- UAH finished the game with an 20-9 advantage in hits.
- The Chargers took advantage of six CBU errors.
- CBU had a season-high three home runs.

Elaina McGill and Gabby Shultz all hit home runs.
- Dyer and
Josie Bond drove in three runs apiece.
- Bond had a career-high three hits to lead CBU.
KEY PLAYS:
- After CBU led 1-0 through three innings, the Chargers took advantage of a two out miscue and took a 3-1 lead.
- The Lady Bucs responded with three of their own in the bottom of the inning on a two-RBI single by Bond and a fielder's choice RBI from Dyer.
- After a scoreless fifth inning, the Chargers exploded for five runs in the fifth. UAH sent 10 batters to the plate in the frame, scoring five runs on six hits.
- CBU responded with three of its own in the bottom of the inning, using home runs from Shultz and Dyer.
- With CBU down to its final out
Elaina McGill smacked a game-tying home run to send the game into extra innings.
- The Lady Bucs were feet away from winning the game, as the next batter,
Mackenzie Puckett, saw her fly ball caught at the wall.
- After UAH scored again in the eighth, CBU was down to its final out when Bond smacked a single to score
Ashlynn Smith.
- The Chargers put the game away with three runs in the ninth. UAH had three runs, and took advantage of two CBU miscues in the frame.
