West Alabama Uses Second Half Goals to Beat Lady Bucs

MEMPHIS. - West Alabama scored a pair of goals in the second half, and hung on for a 2-0 victory over the Christian Brothers University women's soccer team on a rainy Saturday afternoon, on the campus of Christian Brothers High School.

The start of the game was delayed over an hour, due to lightning in the area.

The contest was the second of the 2021 Gulf South Conference Spring Championship Series.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

HALF | CBU forced four first half saves, but were unable to score the opener. 
61' | Brekel Tibbs scored what proved to be the match-winner when her chipped shot was lifted over Riley Chafin.
61' | Less than one minute later CBU narrowly missed the equalizer, as Hannah Ward saw her shot ping off the crossbar.
85' | UWA added to its tally when Anele Komani took a chipped pass off a free kick and found the back of the net.

  • The Lady Bucs finished the match with a 13-5 advantage in shots, and a 7-2 edge in shots on target.
  • CBU also had an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks.
