Puckett, Lady Bucs Bounce Back to Beat Montevallo

MEMPHIS – Mackenzie Puckett pitched a complete game, and allowed just one run, to help the Christian Brothers University softball team earn an 8-1 win over Montevallo, on Saturday, at Saint Benedict at Auburndale High School.

After dropping a pair of contests to Montevallo the previous day, the Lady Bucs used the strong pitching performance from Puckett and a pair of home runs to help earn the win.

FINAL: CBU 1 (2-12, 2-10 GSC) - Montevallo 1 (10-10, 5-6 GSC)

GAME CHANGER:
- Puckett pitched all seven innings, allowing just one run on six hits with five strikeouts.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Both teams finished the game with six hits.
- Four of the six CBU hits were for extra bases, including a pair of home runs.
- Bree Brady had a three-run home run and Elaina McGill added a two-run shot.

KEY PLAYS:
- CBU jumped ahead 1-0 in the first on an RBI double by Memory Willingham.
- Brady smacked her first home run of the year, in the third, to increase the lead to 4-0.
- In the fifth, Gabby Schultz added to the CBU lead with an RBI single.
- The Falcons scored their lone run of the game in the sixth on a solo home run.  
- CBU answered with three runs in the bottom of the sixth, on the two-run home run by McGill and a sac bunt by Josie Bond.
- Puckett slammed the door on the Falcons in the seventh to help CBU earn the win.

UP NEXT:
The Lady Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, March 20 when they travel to face No. 23 West Florida. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
