OXFORD, Miss. – Macy Cumming threw a complete game, allowing just one run, and struck out six batters, as the Christian Brothers University softball team split a doubleheader with Delta State, on Sunday, at mTradePark.
The Lady Statesmen scored four runs in the first inning, and hung on for a 7-5 victory in the opener, and CBU scored four in the first in a 6-1 victory in game two.
GAME ONE: Delta State 7 (18-11, 11-6 GSC) CBU 5 (2-19, 2-15, GSC)
GAME CHANGER:
- After CBU scored five runs, in the second, to take a 5-4 lead the Lady Bucs were held to just three hits the rest of the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- DSU finished the game with a 10-7 advantage in hits.
- The Lady Statesmen walked nine times in the contest.

Josie Bond finished 2-for-4 with a two-RBI double.

Savannah Crockett also had two hits as she went 2-for-3 with a single, double, and a walk.
- Memory was 1-for-3 with a two-RBI single.
KEY PLAYS:
- After a lead-off walk, Delta State strung together three straight doubles to jump out 4-0 in the first inning.
- The Lady Bucs answered with five runs in the second, when they scored a pair of runs on two DSU miscues, and a two-run double from
Josie Bond.
- In the third, the two-RBI double from Reagan Stafford gave the Lady Statesmen a 6-5 lead.
- In the fifth, Kailyn Lofton, of DSU, lined an RBI single to center to give DSU a 7-5 lead.
- In the sixth, the DSU brought in relief pitcher, Lacey Coats, to get the remaining five outs.
- CBU loaded the bases in the sixth, but failed to score a run.
GAME TWO: CBU 6 (3-19, 3-15 GSC) Delta State 1 (18-12, 11-7 GSC)
GAME CHANGER:
- The CBU offense gave starting pitcher
Macy Cumming used a four run cushion in the top of the first inning, which was enough to earn the game two win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- CBU finished the game with an 8-6 edge in hits.
- DSU starter, Brookelyn Sweeney, lasted just 0.1 innings.
- Cumming, struck out a season-high six batters.

Bree Brady went 1-for-2 with a sacrifice fly and a two-RBI single.

Mackenzie Puckett drove in a pair of runs with a single.

Kendall Westbrooks each collected two hits on the contest.
KEY PLAYS:
- The Lady Bucs sent 10 batters to the plate in the first and led 4-0 after one. Brady, Puckett and Willingham drove in runs in the frame.
- The Lady Statesmen got on the board in the fourth, when Haley Simpson slapped an RBI single to left field.
- DSU loaded the bases in the fourth, but Cumming struck out back-to-back hitters to end the threat.
- The Lady Bucs answered with
Bree Brady's two-run double to extend the lead to 6-1 after four.
- Cumming allowed just two hits over the last three innings.
