Memphis, Tenn. - The Christian Brothers University volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to West Alabama in the home-opening match of the 2021 GSC Spring Championship Series, on Saturday afternoon, at Canale Arena.
The match marked the home debut for new head coach Bre Lewis.
West Alabama 3, CBU 1 (25-22, 20-25, 25-23, 25-19)
WHAT HAPPENED: West Alabama finished the match with a 42-37 kill advantage.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the first set, CBU and UWA kept the score close, until UWA scored four consecutive points to take the first set 25-22.
- CBU controlled the second set, leading by as many as seven points and held on for a 25-20 win.
- The Lady Bucs trailed by as many as four, but their comeback fell just short as they dropped the third set 25-23.
- West Alabama jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the deciding set and finished the match with a 25-19 win.
KEY STATS:
- Maddie McGaha led the Lady Bucs with a career high 16 kills, two digs, one block and one service ace.
- Rebecca King finished with a career-high 10 kills.
- Alayna Maslinski led CBU with 21 assists.
- CBU finished the match with a 5-4 advantage in blocks.
