JACKSON, Tenn - The Christian Brothers University volleyball team dropped a pair of 3-0 decisions on day one of the Union Volleyball Classic, on Friday, at Fred DeLay Gymnasium. The Lady Bucs fell to Carson-Newman in the opener, before suffering a setback to Southern Arkansas in the nightcap.
Carson-Newman 3, CBU 0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-19)
WHAT HAPPENED: Carson-Newman had a .349 hitting percentage, while holding CBU to just .088.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Carson-Newman used a late 9-1 run to take the opening set.
- In the second set, the Eagles scored 13 of the last 16 points to take a 2-0 lead.
- After Carson-Newman took the first two sets, it delivered a .370 hitting percentage to claim the final set.
KEY STATS:
- Tia Rizvi led the Lady Bucs with six kills, two assists and an ace.
- KaLea Davis finished with 20 assists and four digs.
- Carson-Newman finished with a 9-5 advantage in blocks.
Southern Arkansas 3, CBU 0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-15)
WHAT HAPPENED: Southern Arkansas had a .300 hitting percentage, while CBU hit just .081.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the first set, CBU and SAU were knotted at 18, but SA used a late 7-2 run to take the set.
- The Lady Muleriders hit 35 percent, committing just one error, in a 25-18 second set win.
- In the deciding set, Southern Arkansas held CBU to a -.047 hitting percentage to earn the sweep.
KEY STATS:
- Madison Spiva led the Lady Bucs with five kills and two aces.
- KaLea Davis finished with 22 assists.
- Southern Arkansas finished with a 37-26 advantage in kills.
