MEMPHIS - The Christian Brothers University volleyball team claimed a set in each match, but were unable to complete a comeback, in a pair of setbacks on the final day of the Buccaneer Invitational, on Saturday, at Canale Arena. The Lady Bucs opened the day with a 3-1 setback to Kentucky Wesleyan, and finished the night by falling 3-1 to Southern Arkansas.
Kentucky Wesleyan 3, CBU 1 (25-21, 18-25, 25-18, 25-23)
WHAT HAPPENED: Lilly Trump's 18 kill performance paced KWC to a 3-1 win.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the first set, CBU and KWC matched point for point as the score was tied 21-21, before KWC used a 4-0 run to take the first set.
- CBU opened the second set with a 4-0 run and used another 4-0 run late to take the set.
- In the third set, KWC used a 6-0 run to take control as it earned a third set victory.
- CBU came back from down four points late in the fourth set, but the Panthers scored the final two points to earn the win.
KEY STATS:
- KaLea Davis led the Lady Bucs with 31 assists, 12 digs, and two aces.
- Madison Spiva finished with 10 kills, two aces, and a block.
- Kimmy Hammond collected 20 digs and three aces in the contest.
- CBU finished the match with a 43-42 advantage in kills.
Southern Arkansas 3, CBU 1 (25-13, 25-15, 13-25, 25-13)
WHAT HAPPENED: Southern Arkansas finished with a .208 percent hitting percentage, while CBU hit -.008 percent. The Lady Muleriders also had 54 digs in the contest.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the first set SAU used a 6-0 run to take control, and pulled away for a 25-13 win.
- The Lady Muleriders used an early 7-0 run to take the second set.
- CBU rallied in the third set by going on an 18-4 run to take the set 25-13.
- In the deciding set Southern Arkansas used an 8-1 run, and hit at a 32 percent clip to complete the 3-1 win.
KEY STATS:
- Maddie Stevens led the Lady Bucs with seven digs, four aces, and two assists.
- KaLea Davis finished with 23 assists and four aces.
- Tia Rizvi finished with nine kills in the contest.
- Southern Arkansas finished with a 13-4 advantage in blocks.
NOTABLES:
- Kimmy Hammond was named to the All-Tournament Team. Hammond finished the four matches with 48 digs.

The Lady Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 7, when they travel to Arkadelphia, Ark., for a non-conference contest with Henderson State. First serve is set for 6:30 PM.
