West Alabama Uses Late Push to Defeat Lady Bucs

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - West Alabama outscored the Christian Brothers University women's basketball team 56-44 in the second half in a 90-85 victory, on Saturday afternoon, at Pruitt Hall.

Yaya Coleman led the Lady Bucs with a career-high 30 points, along with six rebounds. 

The 85 points for the Lady Bucs is a season-high.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • In the opening period the teams combined to go just 11-28 from the floor, as the Tigers lead 17-14. UWA was 3-7 from three point range in the first quarter. 
  • CBU opened the second quarter on an 8-0 run, and took a 22-17 lead with 7:29 remaining in the half.
  • The Lady Bucs finished the half with an 11-4 run to take a 41-34 lead into halftime. CBU shot 44% in the opening half. 
  • UWA opened the third period on a 17-10 run, hitting five of its first seven shots to tie the game at 51. 
  • The Lady Bucs trailed by nine (67-58) entering the fourth quarter. 
  • In the fourth, the Lady Bucs used a 16-7 run to tie the game at 74 with 4:09 remaining in the game.
  • With 1:45 left in the fourth, Zoe Watts, of UWA, hit a go-ahead layup to give UWA an 82-80 lead.
  • In the final minute, UWA went 8-of-10 from the stripe to hold on for the win. 
KEY STATS | NOTEABLES:
  • The 85 points for the Lady Bucs are a season-high.
  • Yaya Coleman finished with a career-high 30 points, six rebounds, and a block.The junior shot 10-of-19 from the field.
  • Karlee Bates added a career-high 14 points with four assists. Bates has scored in double-figures in three of the last four games. 
  • Emily Jones recorded 16 points with nine rebounds.
  • Isabella Jones rounded out the double-figure scorers with 12 points and five assists (both season-highs).
  • UWA had a 16-12 advantage in points off turnovers.
  • The Tigers finished 25-27 from the free throw stripe, while the Lady Bucs were 14-20.
