Lady Bucs Use Big First Half to Defeat Union

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Christian Brothers University women's soccer team used four first half goals to defeat in-state rival Union 4-1, on Sunday afternoon, at Smith Memorial Soccer Complex. With the win, the Lady Bucs clinched the No. 7 seed in the upcoming Gulf South Conference Tournament where they will travel to face No. 2 seed Mississippi College.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
2' | CBU took the lead just over one minute into the match when Cheyenne Smith took a pass from Lara Brewis, at the top of the box, and powered a shot into the top right corner. 
23' | The Lady Bucs doubled their lead after a well timed counter attack saw Hannah Ward take a long pass from Smith and send it accross to Brewis, who tapped it home.
24' | Less than two minutes later, CBU made it 3-0 when Maria Cancio fired home a corner kick from Mya Gargone
45' | The Lady Bucs scored their fourth, just before the half, when Niki Farizy scored from just outside of the box, following a scramble, after a corner kick.  
HALF | CBU had a commanding 16-5 advantage in shots after the first 45 minutes. 
90' | Union scored its lone goal of the match with less than 30 seconds remaining. 

KEY STATS | NOTEABLES
CBU finished with a 25-13 advantage in shots, and a 13-7 edge in shots on goal. 
Chloe Hillyer finished with five saves. 
Julia Valentin, Smith and Gargone led CBU with four shots each. 
The 17 goals for Smith are tied for eighth in program history. 

UP NEXT:
The Lady Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Sunday, Oct. 30, when they open the Gulf South Conference Tournament as the No. 7 seed, at Mississippi College. The start time is yet to be determined.
