Bucs Race Past Montevallo, Reilly Earns 500th Win

MEMPHIS – The Christian Brothers University men's basketball team shot 65 percent in a 91-76 victory over Montevallo, on Sunday afternoon, at Canale Arena. The win marked the 500th career victory for head coach John T. Reilly

The 91 points for the Bucs are the most since they scored 92 against Shorter (1.23.20).

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • The Bucs hit three of their first four shots, including thre triples to jump ahead 11-0. 
  • A three pointer by Aiden Ruthsatz gave the Bucs a 22-5 lead with 9:28 left in the half. 
  • CBU lead by as many as 28 points, and took a 42-16 lead into halftime. 
  • The Bucs shot 59 percent (16-27) in the first half, including 8-12 from three point range 
  • Montevallo was held to just 5-32 (16 percent) shooting, including 1-19 from long range. 
  • A fast paced second half saw the Bucs lead by as many as 31, but Montevallo outscored the Bucs 38-19 over the next 11:30 to cut the lead to 66-54. 
  • CBU outscored the Falcons 11-5 during the next three minutes to slam the door shut.  

KEY STATS | NOTEABLES 

  • In his 30th season as a head coach Reilly is now 500-360. 
  • The 91 points for CBU are its most since 2020.
  • CBU finished the game 65 percent from the floor (31-48), including 13-20 from three point range. 
  • The Bucs also shot 15-21 in the second half, while missing just three shots from inside the three point arc. 
  • The 13 three-point makes are the most for the Bucs since they made 17 against Alabama Huntsville (2.22.20).
  • CBU outrebounded Montevallo 41-26. 
  • Madison Monroe led the Bucs with a career-high 26 points, while hitting six of his eight three point attempts. 
  • Aiden Ruthsatz added 18 points, Daniel Loos had 16 and Slate Garmany added 10. The 10 points and 29 minutes were both career-highs for Garmany. 
  • Loos also pulled down a game-high 11 boards.

CBU is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, Dec. 31, when it travels to face Alabama Huntsville. TIpoff is scheduled for 3 PM.
