Cole's Complete Game Leads Bucs Past Mississippi College

CLINTON, Miss. -  A complete game from Travis Cole helped lead the Christian Brothers University baseball team to a 3-1 Gulf South Conference win over Mississippi College, on Friday evening, at Frierson Field.

GAME CHANGER:
- Cole struck out 10 batters, while not allowing more than one MC base runner in any inning. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Both teams finished the game with five hits.
- Kelton Castillo went 2-for-4 with an RBI double.
- Jarret Fowlkes, Ben Brocato, and Keagan Voss all recorded a hit.
- CBU starting pitcher Travis Cole pitched 9.0 innings, allowing one run on five hits, with 10 strikeouts.
- Cole retired the last 10 batters to earn his first win of the season.

KEY PLAYS:
- The Bucs capitalized on an MC miscue as they took a 1-0 lead on Castillo's RBI-double in the third.
- Markarius Lee got the Choctaws on the board, in the fifth, when he hit a solo home run to left field.
- In the ninth, the Bucs capitalized on two MC miscues to take a 3-1 lead.
- Cole retired the Choctaws in order in the ninth to earn the win. 

NOTEABLES:
- The 10 strikeouts and 9.0 innings pitched for Cole are both career-highs.
- The 11 strikeouts are the most by a CBU pitcher since Blake Dallas had 11 at Union last season (4.17.21)
- Cole recorded his first win of the season.
- The complete game for Cole is the first nine inning complete game for a CBU pitcher since Gil Erwin (Auburn-Montgomery-4.20.19).   
- Castillo recorded his first collegiate multi-hit game.
- The Bucs earned thier first road win at Mississippi College since 4/7/2018.
- This marks the first time that the Bucs have opened the conference slate with a victory since 2018 (Montevallo).

The Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, February 26, when they complete their weekend series against Mississippi College. First pitch for Saturday's doubleheader is set for 1 p.m.
