Lady Bucs Fall in Overtime at West Georgia

CARROLLTON, Ga. - Zaria Bankston hit a pair of free throws with 30 seconds left, in overtime, to help give West Georgia a 93-89 win over the Christian Brothers University women's basketball team, on Saturday afternoon, at The Coliseum.

Emily Jones led CBU, tying a career high with 29 points.

The 89 points for the Lady Bucs are a season-high.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • After a closely contested opening quarter, the game was tied at 20 after 10 minutes.
  • UWG opened the second period with an 11-1 run to take a 31-21 lead.
  • The Lady Bucs answered with a 14-6 run to cut the deficit to 37-35 going into halftime.
  • The Wolves kept it close in the first half by going 12-18 from the free throw stripe, including 9-14 in the second quarter. 
  • UWG grew its lead to eight (48-40) with 6:24 remaining in the third.
  • CBU reeled off a 16-9 run that cut the deficit to 57-56 heading into the fourth quarter.
  • To open the fourth, UWG scored 18 of the first 28 points to extend its lead to nine (75-66) with 4:02 remaining. 
  • With 51 seconds remaining, Emily Jones hit a three pointer to cut the deficit to 79-78.
  • With four seconds remaining, Yaya Coleman made a clutch layup to tie the game at 80.  
  • In OT, UWG made three of its first five shots, to take an 87-84 lead with 3:03 remaining.
  • In the final minute, the Wolves went 4-of-6 from the free throw line to seal the victory.

KEY STATS | NOTEABLES:
  • CBU finished the game shooting 39 percent (32-of-82) from the floor, including 8-for-25 from long-range. 
  • UWG finished 33-for-70 from the floor (47 percent) and 5-of-15 from three point range. 
  • CBU was 17-for-23 from the free throw line.
  • UWG finished the game with a 57-37 edge on the glass.
  • Emily Jones led the Lady Bucs, by tying her career high, with 29 points, on 10-of-15 shooting. The sophomore was 4-of-7 from beyond the arc.
  • Yaya Coleman finished with 27 points, eight rebounds, and four steals. 
  • Jeremia Montgomery added 15 points and 10 rebounds, for her second career double-double.

The Lady Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Thursday, Feb. 10 when they host Mississippi College. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
