Lady Bucs Drop Pair at Montevallo

MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The Christian Brothers University softball team dropped a pair of Gulf South Conference contests to Montevallo, on Sunday at Orr Park.

The Falcons took the opener 8-0 (5), and scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to earn a 7-6 victory to complete the sweep. 

GAME ONE: Montevallo 8 (11-10, 3-3 GSC) CBU 3 (5-16, 1-7 GSC)

GAME CHANGER:
Montevallo starting pitcher Mabry Norris did not allow a hit in five innings. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
Montevallo outhit the Lady Bucs 9-0. Four UWF hits came after the fifth inning. 
The Falcons had three doubles and a home run.

KEY PLAYS:
The hosts used an RBI single and a wild pitch to take a 2-0 lead after one inning. 
After two scoreless innings the Falcons hit a home run, and took advantage of a CBU miscue to extend the lead. 
Montevallo added four runs in the fifth to finish the contest. 

GAME TWO: Montevallo 7 (12-10, 4-3 GSC) CBU 6 (5-17, 1-8 GSC)

GAME CHANGER:
The Falcons scored five runs over the final two innings to earn the win. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
Elaina McGill and Memory Willingham led the Lady Bucs with two hits apiece.
Willingham led the way with three RBIs. 
McGill ht her first home run of the season. 
Ashley Dyer and Cara Alexander had doubles. 

The Falcons had five extra base hits. 
CBU starting pitcher Olivia Renta went the distance allowing six earned runs on nine hits with six strikeouts. 

KEY PLAYS:
An RBI single from Willingham gave CBU a 1-0 lead after one. 
CBU increased its lead to 2-0 with the solo home run from McGill. 
The Falcons used a two-run home run to tie the game in the third. 
Willingham drove in two more runs in the fifth with an RBI single. 
In the sixth, CBU extended its lead to 6-2 on a two-RBI sac fly by Ashley Dyer
Montevallo responded with a pair in the bottom of the inning to cut the deficit to 6-4.
The Falcons had five straight batters reach safely in the seventh, and used an RBI single, followed by a throwing error, to win the game. 

UP NEXT:
The Lady Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, March 15, when they host LeMoyne Owen. First pitch is scheduled for 1 PM.
