Lady Bucs Drop Pair of Close Contests to No. 19 West Florida

MEMPHIS - No. 19 West Florida claimed a pair of hard-fought decisions over the Christian Brothers University softball team, on Saturday afternoon, at Bland Field. 

UWF scored four runs in the seventh to pull away for a 9-2 victory in the opener, before claiming an 8-4 thriller, in eight innings, in game two. 

GAME ONE: No. 19 UWF 9 (12-3, 7-0 GSC) CBU 2 (5-12, 1-3)

GAME CHANGER:
UWF pitcher Kelsey Sweatt struck out 16 batters to help give UWF the win. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
UWF outhit the Lady Bucs 10-3. Four UWF hits came after the fifth inning. 
Ashley Dyer led the Lady Bucs with a two-RBI double. 
CBU starting pitcher Mackenzie Puckett surrendered seven runs, on seven hits, in six innings. 
UWF took advantage of five walks. 

KEY PLAYS:
After UWF scored a pair in the first and one in the second, the score remained the same until the bottom of the fifth when Ashley Dyer delivered a two-RBI double off the right field fence. 
The Argonauts answered with two in the sixth and four in the seventh. 

GAME TWO: No. 19 UWF 8 (13-3, 8-0 GSC) CBU 4 (5-13, 1-4) (8)

GAME CHANGER:
With two outs in the top of the seventh, 2021 All-American Teala Howard hit her second home run of the game to tie the score at four. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
UWF outhit the Lady Bucs 6-4.
Seven of eight UWF runs came via home run. 
Mackenzie Puckett (2-for-4) was the lone CBU player with multiple hits. 
Kiera Coulon and Reese Earleywine had the two CBU RBIs. 
CBU starting pitcher Macy Cumming allowed eight runs, on six hits, in 7.2 innings of work. 
UWF took advantage of six walks and two HBP. 

KEY PLAYS:
With UWF leading 2-0, CBU responded with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 4-2 lead. 
After Earleywine drew a bases loaded walk, Coulon singled through the right side to score Puckett. 
CBU added two more runs after UWF dropped an infield fly to first base. 
In the fifth, Howard's first home run of the contest tied the game at four.
