Valdosta, Ga. - No. 4 Valdosta State hit six home runs to help it earn a doubleheader split over the Christian Brothers University softball team, on Saturday, at Steel's Diamond.
The Blazers took the opener 8-0 (5), before using a six run fifth inning to claim the nightcap 10-6.
GAME ONE: Blazers 8 (22-5, 14-1 GSC) | Lady Bucs 0 (10-23, 4-12) (5)
GAME CHANGER:
VSU scored five runs in the bottom of the first to earn the victory in the series opener.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
The hosts finished with a 7-1 advantage in hits.
Five Blazer hits were home runs.
Josie Bond had the lone hit for CBU.
KEY PLAYS:
After Morgan Hill led off the bottom of the first with a home run, the Blazers scored four more runs with two outs.
VSU scored a run in the second and two in the third to help finish the contest.
GAME TWO: Blazers 10 (23-5, 15-1 GSC) | Lady Bucs 6 (10-24, 4-13)
GAME CHANGER:
After CBU took a 4-2 lead into the bottom of the fifth, the Blazers responded with six runs in the bottom of the inning.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
VSU outhit the Lady Bucs 14-6.
Both teams finished with two errors.
Josie Bond finished 2-for-4 with a pair of runs.
Mackenzie Puckett was 1-for-4 with two RBIs.
Ashley Dyer and
Cara Alexander both drew two walks apiece.
KEY PLAYS:
After 2.5 scoreless innings, VSU used a two-run home run from Nikki Pennington to take the lead.
In the fifth, the Lady Bucs took a 4-2 lead using a bases loaded walk, a hit by pitch and a two-RBI single by Puckett.
The hosts responded with six runs on five hits in the bottom of the inning to take an 8-4 lead.
VSU took the lead for good with a two-RBI double from Taylor Macera.
CBU didnt go quietly, as it took advantage of a VSU miscue to cut the lead to 8-6, in the sixth.
The Blazers scored a pair in the bottom of the sixth to finish the scoring.

The Lady Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Sunday, April 3 when they finish the series with Valdosta State. First pitch is set for noon.
