Bucs Use Big First Half to Cruise Past Shorter

MEMPHIS - The Christian Brothers University men's soccer team scored six goals, in less than 30 minutes, to defeat Shorter 6-0, on Friday night at Signaigo Field. The contest was the Gulf South Conference opener for both teams.

SHORTER 0 (3-1, 0-1 GSC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
5' | The Bucs wasted little time opening the scoring when Vincenzo Giordano slipped behind the defense, and fired a shot home after rounding the goalkeeper. 
13' | CBU added to its lead when Lucho Galizzi converted a penalty kick, after Giordano was brought down in the box. 
21' | Just over eight minutes later, Giordano scored his second of the half when he put away a cross from Marco Osti
24' | Ryan Beckinsale made it 4-0, after curving a shot past the Shorter goalkeeper, from 15 yards out. 
31' | Habib Binate scored his first of the game when he took a pass from Felipe Artega, and slipped behind the defense before firing a shot past the keeper. 
32' | Binate finished the scoring, with his second in less than a minute, as he put away a cross from Eduardo Bengoa
HALF | The Bucs outshot the visitors 11-3 in the opening 45 minutes.  

KEY STATS | NOTEABLES
  • CBU finished the game with a 16-5 advantage in shots, including a 9-1 edge in shots on goal. 
  • The two goals in a match for Binate tie his career high, as he has also accomplished the feat against Delta State (3.13.21) and Shorter (10.14.18).
  • The goals for Giordano are the first of his collegiate career. 
  • CBU has not allowed a goal in over 200 minutes. 
  • The six goals for CBU are their most since scoring eight against Shorter last season.
