West Florida Uses Big Second Half to Defeat Bucs

GULF BREEZE, Fla. - West Florida scored a pair of second half goals to defeat the Christian Brothers University men's soccer team 2-1, on Friday afternoon, at Shoreline Park.

The contest was a rematch of the 2022 Gulf South Conference Tournament championship final that saw the Bucs advance on penalty kicks.  

FINAL SCORE:
UWF  2 (6-1-3, 3-1-3, GSC)
CBU  1 (4-3-4, 1-3-2, GSC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
40' | The Bucs opened the scoring when a cross from Roberto Lagoa found Felipe Arteaga, who slotted the ball into the goal from close range.  
HALF | West Florida finished the opening half with a 6-3 edge in shots. The Argos forced three first half saves from Max Klink.
48' | UWF tied the game just after halftime when Tom Preston scored following a corner kick. 
75' | The hosts scored what proved to be the game-winner when Austin Marshick scored off an assist from Fynn Geigle. 
90' | UWF held the Bucs without a shot following the go-ahead goal.

  • The Bucs were outshot 16-5. UWF also had an 8-3 edge in shots on goal.
