Lady Bucs Drop Non-Conference Match to Henderson State

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Christian Brothers University volleyball team came up just short in its final non-conference match of the season, as it dropped a 3-1 decision to Henderson State, on Monday night, at Canale Arena. 

FINAL SCORE:
HSU 3 (14-6, 5-2 GAC), CBU 1 (2-17, 1-6 GSC), (21-25, 25-11, 25-20, 25-21)

WHAT HAPPENED:
Led by 11 kills and five blocks from Calah Jackson, CBU captured the first set 25-21, before dropping the final three.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Reddies jumped out to a 6-2 lead, but multiple kills by Addie Waggoner helped the Bucs tie the game at six.  
  • With the score tied at 11, CBU used an 11-3 run to capture a 22-14 lead, using kills from Alma Solis, Jordan Allen and Jackson. Allen's kill gave CBU the 1-0 lead in the match.
  • In the second set, the Reddies came out hot taking a 20-4 lead. CBU went on a 5-1 run before falling 25-11.
  • The third set was back-and-forth, as back-to-back kills by Tia Rizvi and Sarah Allyn Thornell gave CBU 14-11 lead. 
  • After a kill by Waggoner, the Lady Bucs took a 19-18 lead. The Reddies responded with a 7-1 run to win the set 25-20, and a 2-1 lead. 
  • The 11th kill from Jackson gave the Bucs a 20-19 lead in the fourth set. Henderson State regained the momentum to end the set on a 6-1 run to secure the win. 
KEY STATS | NOTABLES:
  • Jackson continues her hot streak in Canale Arena, as she now has 55 kills and a .287 attack percentage while at home.
  • Freshman Aliyah Babler recorded her first career kill.
  • Playing in her first set of the season, freshman Emily Helms recorded two blocks.  
  • Rizvi put in a strong outing with 8 kills, 13 digs, two assists, two blocks and two aces. 
  • The Lady Bucs have three consecutive matches with at least 40 kills, which is their longest streak of the season. 
  • The nine blocks are the most by CBU in a contest this season. 
  • The five blocks for Jackson are a season-high.
