Lady Bucs Defeat West Georgia, Earn First Win of Season

MEMPHIS -  The Christian Brothers University women's basketball team defeated West Georgia 61-50 to earn its first win of the season, on Thursday night, at Canale Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • The Wolves started quick and led 15-11 at the end of the first quarter. 
  • A Mariona Pontnou jumper gave the Lady Bucs the 17-15 lead two minutes into the second quarter. 
  • The Lady Bucs had nine steals in the second quarter to help push them to a 34-25 lead at the half.  
  • West Georgia shot 37 percent from the field in the first half, while CBU shot 46. 
  • CBU forced six third quarter turnovers to help take a 48-40 lead into the fourth period. 
  • The Wolves got to within 53-50, with 3:53 left, but the Lady Bucs defense did not allow a point the rest of the way. 

KEY STATS | NOTEABLES 

  • The victory over West Georgia is the first NCAA win for Head Coach Addie Lees
  • The 50 points is the fewest CBU has allowed this season. It is also the lowest scoring output of the season for UWG. 
  • Mariona Pontnou matched her career-high with 11 points. 
  • Jeremia Montgomery earned her third double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds. 
  • Chloe Crawford and Isabella Jones both added 10 points.  
  • The 10 points for Jones is her highest scoring output since she totaled 12 at West Alabama (1.15.22)

UP NEXT 

The Lady Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Friday, Dec. 8, when they travel to face in-state rival No. 5 Union. Tipoff is set for 5:30 PM.
