Bucs Roll Past West Florida

MEMPHIS - The Christian Brothers University men's basketball team outscored visiting West Florida 55-17 in the first half and pulled away for a 93-55 win, on Sunday afternoon, at Canale Arena. 

The Bucs have now won four straight contests, which matches their longest streak since 2019-20.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • In the first 6:07 of the contest, the Bucs made eight of their first 10 shots and raced out to a 22-3 led. 
  • CBU led 34-7 at the midway point of the first half. 
  • The Bucs took their biggest lead of the opening 20 minutes when Jailen Anderson drove nearly the entire length of the floor, and banked home a layup to give CBU a 54-17 halftime lead. 
  • CBU shot 54 percent in the first half (21-39), and knocked down 11-14 from the free throw line. 
  • UWF was held to just 7-28 shooting (25 percent), and missed all 11 of its three point attempts. 
  • The Argonauts cut the deficit to 62-34, but CBU scored 12 straight points to push the lead back to 40. 
  • CBU never allowed the vistitors to cut the deficit to less than 35 points for the remainder of the contest. 

KEY STATS | NOTABLES 

  • CBU held UWF to its lowest point total since Jan 7, 2023 (23 games). 
  • The Bucs finished 37-71 from the floor (52 percent), while holding UWF to just 22-63 (35 percent). 
  • The Argonauts managed to hit just one of its 21 three point attempts. 
  • CBU was 14-20 from the free throw stripe, while UWF was 10-18. 
  • The Bucs dominated the backboards, outrebounding the visitors 53-32. 
  • CBU also outscored UWF in the paint, 58-28. 
  • CBU has won the rebounding battle in eight of its nine games.

  • Christian Jones led CBU with 20 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and three steals. The Memphis native did not have a turnover in 33 minutes of action. 
  • Christian Thompson added a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards. Thompson has now recorded a double-double in back-to-back games. 
  • Anias Futrell posted 19 points and seven rebounds. Futrrell has scored at least 18 points in six-of-nine games. 
  • Jailen Anderson (14) and Madison Monroe (10) rounded out the double-figure scorers for the Bucs. 
  • Braztyn McCuien finished with 10 boards. He now has double-figure rebounds twice this season.
