Lady Bucs Hit Way Past Kentucky State at Charger Chillout

ALBERTVILLE, Ala. - The Christian Brothers University softball team pounded out 16 hits in a 12-4 (5) win over Kentucky State, on Sunday afternoon, at the UAH Charger Chillout. The Lady Bucs defeated Kentucky State after falling 10-2 (5) against Lincoln Memorial to start the day. 

The Lady Bucs have scored at least 12 runs in all three of their wins. 

GAME ONE: LMU 10 (10-1) CBU 2 (2-3) (5) 

GAME CHANGER:
With the score tied at two, the Railsplitters took advantage of a pair of miscues and three walks to score eight runs in the fifth inning. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • The Lady Bucs were outhit 10-2. 
  • Savannah Crockett and Kiera Coulon had the hits for CBU. 
  • After starting her collegiate career with a no-hitter, starting pitcher Emily Schooler allowed five runs, two earned, on six hits with seven strikeouts in four innings. 
KEY PLAYS:
LMU used a bases loaded walk to score a run in the bottom of the first. 
In the third the Railsplitters tied the score at two on a sacrifice fly. 
LMU sent 11 batters to the plate in the fifth, and took advantage of two errors and three walks to plate eight runs. 

GAME TWO: CBU 12 (3-3) KSU 4 (1-5) (5)

GAME CHANGER:
CBU finished the game with 16 hits, eight of which were for extra bases. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: KEY PLAYS:
A double by Candies and a McGill home run helped give CBU a 3-0 lead after one inning. 
KSU scored four runs to take a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the second. 
The lead was short lived as Burks led off the bottom of the second with a solo home run. 
An RBI groundout by Josie Bond gave the Lady Bucs a 5-4 lead. 
After CBU scored three runs in the fourth, it used RBIs from Caroline Gross, Candies and Willingham (2) to finish the game. 

NOTABLES:
  • The five doubles are the most in a game for CBU since 2020 (MUW - 2.26.20).
  • Through six games, Candies has 10 RBIs. The Hahnville, La., native has three RBIs in three different games. 
  • The home run for Burks was the first of her career. 
  • This marks the second time in her career that Willingham has had two doubles in one game. 
UP NEXT:
The Lady Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, Feb. 18 when they open Gulf South Conference play at Auburn Montgomery. First pitch is set for 1 PM.
