Bucs Earn Doubleheader Split with Auburn Montgomery


GAME ONE: CBU 5 (6-4, 1-1 GSC) AUM 3 (2-9, 1-1 GSC)

GAME CHANGER:
In his first career Gulf South Conference start, CBU pitcher Charlie Faoro did not allow a run in six innings of work. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • The Bucs were outhit 9-8
  • CBU finished the game with four extra base hits, including two doubles and two home runs. 
  • Ben Brocato and Dalton Pyzer both had home runs. Brocato, who finished 3-4, also added a double. 
  • Four of five CBU runs came via the home run. 
  • CBU won the contest despite being struck out nine times. 
  • Faoro scattered five hits in six innings of work. 
KEY PLAYS:
After three scoreless innings, Pyzer got the Bucs on the board with a two-run home run. 
In the fifth, CBU took advantage of an AUM miscue to increase its lead to 3-0. 
In the same inning Brocato smacked a two-run home run to give the Bucs a 5-0 lead. 
The Warhawks didn't go quietly as they pieced together three runs, on three hits, in the bottom of the ninth. 
Jack Staples slammed the door shut, retiring the last two batters to finish the game. 

NOTABLES:
  • With his fifth home run of the season, Brocato has already eclipsed the total of any CBU player from last season (Fowlkes - 4).
  • The save for Staples is the first of his career. 
GAME TWO: AUM 4 (3-9, 2-1 GSC) CBU 2 (6-5, 1-2 GSC)

GAME CHANGER:
Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth, AUM took advantage of a pair of miscues to score what proved to be the winning run. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • The Bucs outhit the hosts 9-4. 
  • Both teams finished with two errors each. 
  • Jarret Fowlkes and Ben Brocato finished with two hits apiece. 
  • Fowlkes (2B) had the only extra base hit for CBU. 
  • Dalton Pyzer and Seth Brown drove in the lone runs for CBU. 
  • CBU starting pitcher Jacob Sitton allowed three runs, one earned, on three hits in five innings of work.  
KEY PLAYS:
Pyzer smacked an RBI single to give CBU a 1-0 lead in the first inning. 
An infield single for Brown gave CBU a 2-0 lead in the fifth. 
AUM used a triple and an RBI single to cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth. 
In the sixth, the Warhaws took advantage of a pair of CBU miscues to score the winning runs. 
Brocato led off the seventh with a single, but was left stranded to end the game.  

UP NEXT:
The Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 21 when they host Blue Mountain. First pitch is scheduled for 1 PM.
