Lady Bucs Bounce Back to Earn Split with Delta State

MEMPHIS - The Christian Brothers University softball team bounced back to earn a split with Delta State, on Friday afternoon, at Bland Field. The Lady Statesmen used a late rally to take the opener 8-4, but the Lady Bucs used a pair of four-run innings in an 8-3 win to earn the split.  

GAME ONE: DSU 8 (6-15, 3-4 GSC) CBU 4 (3-14, 0-7 GSC)  

GAME CHANGER:
After the Lady Bucs scored four runs to take a 4-3 lead to the top of the seventh, DSU scored five runs to help it earn the win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • The Lady Bucs were outhit 10-5.
  • Five different CBU players had a hit.
  • Caroline Gross and Savannah Crockett had doubles for CBU. 
  • DSU starting pitcher Lacy Coats did not allow a hit through five innings. 
  • CBU starter Emily Schooler allowed just three hits through five. 
  • The Lady Statesmen took advantage of four walks and three errors. 
KEY PLAYS:
In the second, DSU had runners on first and second with one out but Schooler used a strikeout to get out of the inning. 
DSU had a pair in scoring position, with just one out in the fifth, but Schooler pitcher her way out of another jam to end the threat. 
The visitors opened the scoring in the sixth with an RBI single, before scoring on back-to-back wild pitches. 
The Lady Statesmen appeared to be in control, until back-to-back singles and a pair of stolen bases gave CBU a pair of runners in scoring position. 
Savannah Crockett then got CBU on the board with a two-RBI double. 
With two outs, Caroline Gross gave the Lady Bucs the lead when her double scored a pair. 
DSU took advantage of three errors to score five runs in the top of the seventh. 
After a leadoff walk, CBU was retired in order to end the game. 

GAME ONE: CBU 8 (4-14, 1-7 GSC)  DSU 3 (6-16, 3-5 GSC) 

GAME CHANGER:
Trailing 3-0, the Lady Bucs scored eight unanswered runs to win the game.  

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: KEY PLAYS:
DSU took advantage of a pair of errors to plate three runs in the first. 
CBU used two doubles and took advantage of a DSU error to plate four runs in the third. 
After scoring two more runs, in the fourth, Willingham doubled to extend the CBU lead to 8-3. 
Kliebert held DSU to just two hits the rest of the way to seal the win. 

UP NEXT:
The Lady Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, March 11 when they are set to finish the series with Delta State. First pitch is scheduled for 11 AM.
