West Alabama Hits Way Past Bucs


GAME ONE: UWA 12 (7-9, 4-4 GSC) CBU 2 (8-10, 2-6 GSC) (8)

GAME CHANGER:
The Tigers had 18 hits to take the opener. Seven UWA players had at least two hits. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • The Bucs were outhit 18-8.
  • Ben Brocato and Matthew McDaniel were the lone CBU players with multiple hits. 
  • Jarret Fowlkes and McDaniel drove in the runs for the Bucs. 
  • Four CBU pitchers combined for 11 strikeouts, led by starter Travis Cole, who had five. 
  • UWA starting pitcher Jacob Smith went the distance allowing one earned run, on eight hits, with seven strikeouts. 
KEY PLAYS:
The Tigers took advantage of a CBU miscue to score three runs in the bottom of the first. 
CBU answered in the top of the second on an RBI single by Matthew McDaniel
Trailing 5-1, in the sixth, CBU got to within 5-2 with a run-scoring single from Jarret Folkes. 
The Tigers scored three in the sixth and two in the seventh and eighth to finish the scoring.

GAME CHANGER:
Leading 2-0, in the first inning, the Tigers took advantage of a CBU miscue to extend the inning. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • The Tigers finished with an 8-6 advantage in hits. 
  • Jarret Fowlkes led the Bucs at the plate, going 3-3.
  • Clay Facteau and Ben Brocato drove in the CBU runs. 
  • Starting pitcher Charlie Faoro allowed two earned runs, on six hits, in 4.2 innings. 
KEY PLAYS:
After grabbing an early 2-0 lead, the Tigers took advantage of a CBU error that extended the inning which led to a 4-0 lead. 
The Bucs cut the lead to 4-1, in the third, when an RBI single by Facteau scored Fowlkes. 
 In the fifth, a sac-fly by Brocato cut the deficit to 4-2. The Bucs left a pair of runners stranded in the inning. 
The Tigers added an insurance run in the sixth and kept the Bucs off the board in the seventh. 

NOTABLES:
  • The three hits for Fowlkes tied a season-high. 
UP NEXT:
The Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, March 7 when they travel to Rust for a non-conference matchup. First pitch is set for 1 PM.
