Lady Bucs use Big Inning to Earn Split with Lee

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Christian Brothers University softball team split a Gulf South Conference doubleheader with Lee on Saturday, at Bland Field. The Flames took the opener 8-4, but the Lady Bucs used a big third inning to bounce back and win game two 12-4 (6). 

GAME ONE: Lee 8 (13-31, 8-17 GSC) CBU 4 (10-32, 3-22 GSC) 

GAME CHANGER:
Lee scored what proved to be the winning runs when it plated three in the fifth.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: KEY PLAYS:
After two scoreless innings, CBU took a 1-0 lead on a solo blast by Crockett.
Lee scored two in the fourth, using a home run and a walk.
Gross had a two-run home run in the fifth that cut the deficit to 5-4.
The Flames finished the scoring with two runs in the sixth and a two-run home run in the seventh.
 
NOTEABLES:
The homerun for Crockett was her first of the season.
Gross now leads the team with five home runs. 

GAME TWO: Lee 4 (13-32, 8-18 GSC) CBU 12 (11-32, 4-22 GSC) 

GAME CHANGER:
The Lady Bucs sent 13 batters to the plate, scoring nine runs in the third.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • The Lady Bucs out hit the Flames 10-7
  • Riley Simpson led CBU with three hits and three RBIs.
  • Ashlynn Smith and Simpson both had three-run home runs.
KEY PLAYS:
The Flames took a 2-0 lead in the third.
The Lady Bucs took control of the game in the third when they sent 13 batters to the plate, scoring nine runs on six hits. The inning was highlighted by a two-RBI single by Mackenzie Bakel and a three-run home run by Smith. 
CBU finished off the scoring when Simpson blasted a three-run home run to center field to end the game early via the run-rule. 

NOTABLES:
CBU has now hit at least two home runs in eight different games. 

UP NEXT:
The Lady Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Sunday, April 23 when they host Lee for Senior Day. First pitch is scheduled for 11AM.
