Lady Bucs Shutout Mississippi College

MEMPHIS - The Christian Brothers University women's soccer team used a long-range goal from Lia Haggstrom to help it earn a 1-0 win over Mississippi College, on Friday night, at Signaigo Field. The victory for CBU marked its first over the Choctaws since 2014.  

MC entered the season as the defending Gulf South Conference Tournament champions.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
17' | Less than 25 seconds after Chloe Hillyer saved the first MC shot of the contest Alice Legnedahl slipped a pass, down the right side, to Haggstrom who powered a shot from 30 yards out over the top of the goalkeeper Jessi Carro. 
HALF | The Choctaws had three shots the remainder of the half, but none of which required a save from Hillyer. 
58' | MC had a chance to equalize, but Erin Stamatopoulos had her shot ping off the crossbar. 
84' | The visitors were forced to play with 10 players for the remainder of the match after Kaylee Foster wasa shown a red card. 
90' | MC had two shots in the final 5:02, but were unable to find an equalizer. 

KEY STATS | NOTEABLES
  • MC had a 12-7 edge in shots, but CBU had four shots on goal compared to just two for the Choctaws. 
  • The goal for Haggstrom was her first of the season and the second of her collegiate career. 
  • Hillyer saved both Choctaw shots. 
  • Haggstrom led CBU with three shots. All three were on target.
