Mississippi College Uses Pair of Second Half Goals to Defeat Bucs

MEMPHIS - Mississippi College used a pair of second half goals to defeat the Christian Brothers University men's soccer team 2-0, on Friday night, at Signaigo Field. The contest marked the Gulf South Conference opener for the Bucs. 

The setback was the first in the regular season, for the Bucs, since falling to Montevallo on Sept. 16, 2022. It also marked the first home loss for CBU since it dropped a 2-1 decision to Lee on Sept. 11, 2022.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
9' | The Choctaws had three shots on goal, in the first nine minutes, but CBU goalkeeper Max Klink kept the visitors off the board. 
9' | CBU had its first chance of the game when Vincenzo Giordano took a pass down the right side, cut inside, and saw his point blank shot stopped by MC goalkeeper Cole Turner.  
19' | The Bucs had had four shots in less than two minutes, including a pair on goal by Felipe Arteaga, but were unable to find the opening goal. 
43' | CBU had an opportunity to open the scoring just before the break when Daiki Ebihara had a failed clearance fall at his feet, but his powerful volley was tipped away.     
HALF | The offenses stole the show in the first half, as the teams combined for 19 shots. The Bucs went to the break with an 11-8 edge in shots. 
54' | MC opened the scoring when Guilherme Santos headed home a corner kick. 
80' | With the Bucs pushing forward for a goal, the Choctaws doubled their lead when they took advantage of a turnover and scored on a counter-attack. 
90' | CBU had three shots in the final 10 minutes, but had two turned away by Turner.
