CBU drops match to second-place UAH

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Christian Brothers volleyball (5-11, 1-5 GSC) was defeated in three sets by the second-place team in the Gulf South Conference, Alabama-Huntsville (16-2, 7-1 GSC) on Friday evening at the Canale Arena. The Lady Buccaneers came closest to taking a set in the second, but came up short, 25-21.

KEY PLAYERS
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • CBU fell behind 8-2 early in the first set. The Bucs then battled back to close the gap to three points, 14-11, following a kill by Tia Rizvi and consecutive service aces by Sofia Rathheim-Hilton. A five-point streak by UAH later on propelled the Chargers to a 25-17 victory in set one.
  • Alabama-Huntsville rushed out to an early lead again in the second set. However, Christian Brothers never let the set completely away and made it close at the end by notching five unanswered points. Calah Jackson smashed two kills and assisted on a block to bring her team back within two points, 21-19. UAH ended the second set on a 4-2 run to halt the stellar comeback effort by the Bucs.
  • The third set was close until the Chargers registered seven points without a response from CBU. An insurmountable 11-point deficit was the result. Alabama-Huntsville went on to win the third set, 25-14, and the match.
