Lady Bucs battle to bitter end at Mississippi College

CLINTON, Miss. – The Christian Brothers University volleyball team (5-13, 1-7 GSC) was defeated by Mississippi College (8-9. 6-3 GSC) in three sets on Friday night inside the A.E. Wood Coliseum. The Lady Bucs posted 20 points in the second set and were edged, 27-25, in the third set.

KEY PLAYERS
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Choctaws went up 8-1 early in the first set and never relinquished the momentum. They went on to win the opening set by seven points, 25-18.
  • The second set was much closer. Both teams struggled to gain any real separation from the other until Mississippi College registered four unanswered points to go up by four, 15-11. The teams went back to trading points after the short surge and the Choctaws were able to hang on to win the second set by a mere five points, 25-20.
  • The third set started with Mississippi College taking a massive 11-4 lead. Nine rallies later, CBU exploded on an incredible 9-1 run to go up by a point, 17-16. Jackson and Jordan Allen notched two kills each during the explosive effort. The score remained tight until the very end when a pair of consecutive points scored by the Choctaws allowed them to take the set, 27-25, and the match.

NEXT UP

Christian Brothers will play again tomorrow, Oct. 19, against West Alabama (2-17, 0-9 GSC) in another road test for the Lady Bucs. The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
