CBU downed by Montevallo in 2024 home opener

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Christian Brothers University women's soccer team (0-6-0, 0-3-0 GSC) fell to Montevallo (5-1-1, 4-0-0 GSC) by a final score of 5-0 on Wednesday night at Signaigo Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Montevallo's Shadia Valenzuela scored two goals within a three-minute span early in the first half. Her first goal came in the 17th minute and her second was scored in the 19th minute.
  • Both of CBU's shots in the first half were taken by Ana Dutra and missed the mark.
  • Christian Brothers limited the Falcons to nine shots in the opening 45 minutes, but the Bucs did not have an answer to Valenzuela's clinical finishing and flair.
  • Montevallo peppered CBU's goal with 14 shots in the second half and found the net three times with three different goal scorers. All of the Falcons' second half goals were scored before the 67th minute.
  • Christian Brothers' best chances came in the final five minutes of the contest. Dutra hit the woodwork. Alexa Franklin had a shot blocked off the line before she took a second shot off the rebound that was saved. Elisa Cruz's shot in the 88th minute needed to be kept out prior to Franklin taking one last shot for the Bucs that was blocked by a defender.
