Christian Brothers picks up all three points with nail-biting 1-0 win versus Spring Hill

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Christian Brothers men's soccer (5-3-3, 2-1-3 GSC) picked up all three points with a 1-0 win over Spring Hill (5-6-1, 5-3-1 GSC) on Sunday afternoon at SIgnaigo Field. The Bucs extended their unbeaten streak to six games and rose to fourth place in the conference standings with the result.

COACH'S REMARKS

"Massive character shown from the lads today," said Head Coach Enda Crehan. "We are super proud of them all. We look forward to another good week of training."

KEY PLAYERS
  • Senior defender Reuben Jones scored the first goal of his CBU career while helping his team earn a shutout.
  • Graduate goalkeeper Vicent Sanchis Olmedo kept his third clean sheet of the season by making two spectacular saves. He has only allowed one goal in his last five appearances.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Bucs were firmly in control during the entire first half. They spent the majority of their time in the attacking third and took eight shots in the opening 45 minutes. Half of those shots required saves to be made by Spring Hill's keeper. Meanwhile, CBU completely stifled the Badgers' attack and did not allow them to take a single shot through the halftime whistle.
  • In the second half, both sides pressed for the game-winning goal. Spring Hill managed to get off six shots while Christian Brothers shot seven times.
  • The breakthrough goal finally came for the Bucs in the 71st minute. Lauri Orava knocked the ball towards goal from inside the 18-yard box and Jones redirected it into the back of the net, 1-0.
  • Sanchis Olmedo made two show-stopping saves in the 84th and 89th minutes to help his team earn all three points at the final whistle.

NEXT UP

CBU will head to Auburn-Montgomery (6-1-5, 4-1-2 GSC) on Friday, Oct. 25 for a 7:30 p.m. match next. The Warhawks currently sit in third place in the league standings and are two points ahead of the Bucs.
