Lady Bucs suffer defeat in four-setter at AUM

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – In a tightly-contested match, Christian Brothers University (7-19, 3-13 GSC) faced off against Auburn University-Montgomery (8-15, 5-9 GSC) in a Gulf South Conference showdown at the AUM Athletics Complex on Friday night. Despite a strong opening set, Christian Brothers ultimately fell to AUM with a final score of 3-1 (25-18, 17-25, 16-25, 27-29).

The Lady Bucs opened the match with a commanding 25-18 win in the first set, capitalizing on efficient attacking led by Addison Waggoner and Tia Rizvi, who both notched crucial kills. Ella Schumacher also played a pivotal role, adding kills and blocks that gave CBU an early edge.

However, AUM regrouped in the second set, taking advantage of Christian Brothers' errors to secure a 25-17 victory. The Warhawks' Kendall McCain was instrumental, recording several kills that disrupted the Lady Bucs' defensive setups.

The third set saw AUM extend its momentum with a 25-16 win, marked by solid serving and a defensive stand that limited CBU's scoring opportunities. AUM's service aces and key blocks continued to thwart Christian Brothers' attempts to regain control.

Christian Brothers battled fiercely in the fourth set, pushing it into extra points. With stellar play from Jordan Allen and crucial defensive digs from Sofia Rathheim-Hilton, CBU nearly forced a fifth set. However, AUM edged out a 29-27 win to seal the match.

The Lady Bucs showed tenacity throughout the match, with notable performances from Schumacher, who tallied 19 kills, and setter Sarah Allyn Thornell, who provided 49 assists. They will prepare for a trip to Montevallo on Friday, Nov. 8 next.
